Troubleshoot your desktop OSs (All Windows OSs)

Many, if not all of the desktops in your organization are likely
running a Microsoft Windows desktop operating system, such as
Windows 2000 or Windows XP. If users experience problems with the
bootup process of their desktop OS becoming too slow, too many
applications may be loading at bootup and login. To identify what
programs are loading at these times, you can use Windows internal
utilities, such as msconfig, or you can use third-party software.
A great freeware utility we found to identify this type of
information is Sysinternals Autoruns 7. You can download the
utility at
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml.
Then, all you have to do is extract the Zip file and run
autoruns.exe. Autoruns checks the system and displays a list of
all applications that load at bootup and login, a brief
description for each, the publisher of the application, and the
location of the application in either the registry or the file system.
